On March 11th 2017 the counting of votes for the Punjab State assembly election 2017 took place in which the congress party came to power by will 77 out 119 assembly seats. The Aam Adami Party (AAP) which was expected to win the election managed to secure on 20 seats, on the other hand the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) despite entrenched with high public criticism and protest was still able retain 15 seats in the election.
